Negative Pop Culture Quest

It took me awhile to find a section of pop culture which I found was negative towards society. I finally thought of video games and linked them to my little brother and his love for playing video games such as Call of Duty. I think that games such as Call of Duty have a negative impact on American society because they are teaching people to be mean, aggressive, and violent. This has been a question that many parents have found unanswered because nobody really can pin point violence in people to this violent games.
I was researching this subject and came across a Bostons Hospital Pediatric Health Blog and in this blog a parent has asked "How do these video games impact teen boys?" The doctor whom replies to this question explains that some people who play the violent games, "tend to expect the world to be a meaner place, and they become disconnected and less caring people." I agree with this statement because of the violence that I have seen in my little brother, age 14, and I do believe that it is caused from his obsession of playing Call of Duty. I believe that people get angry while playing these games and their anger can leak into other aspects of their life such as school and their family.
Another statistic from Youth Development that I found while researching this topic explains that, “The latest brain research shows that violent games activate the anger center of the teenage brain while dampening the brain’s conscience." This can cause people to strengthen their anger center of the brain while the conscience center of the brain is being neglected therefore in real life situations the person because more angry and cannot concentrate correctly and make rational decisions correctly. To support my opinion on anger over coming the self-control part of the brain I found a news article, Does game violence make teens aggressive? from NBC news that has done research of the brain and has photos of the two different brains, one from a teenager whom is not playing a video game and one who is,

I found this Website very helpful and quite persuasive in my opinion that video games are making teenagers more violent by under developing their self-control and attention. I know many people do not think that video games have an affect on kids or even adults because it is not real life and people should be able to distinguish that it is not real life. I think that these people that play so many video games forget that they even have a "real life" and they begin to become violent and un social. I have seen this happen first hand with my brother and I think that it is a negative effect on the American society.
