Movie Poster Mastery Quest

I chose to do my movie poster comparisons on the movie "HairSpray". The first original movie of "HairSpray" Came out in 1988, while the remake of this movie came out in 2007. I have posted both pictures of the movie posters that were used to advertise these movies. "HairSpray" made in 1988 is on the left while "HairSpray" in 2007 is displayed on the right.

Each poster gives a different impression. The poster from 1988 is kind of boring and plain. It is not colorful and only shows two peoples bottom half that seem to be dancing and wearing sixties clothing. This poster also provides critics opinions of the movie such as "outrageous!" and "the 60's comedy that shows no mercy!" These are to show people that the movie is funny and they are there to try and get people to go see that movie. The impression that the poster from 2007 gives is different, this poster is very colorful and has a lot to look at. It is not plain whats so ever and it also has pictures of the lead characters whom also happen to be very famous actors and actresses of the time. These pictures of the characters are what get the people to go see this movie, rather than the critics comics like on the 1988 version.

The only consistency of the two posters that I could find is the 60's style of clothing.

Like I said before the original was designed for the audience by adding critics comments about the movie being hilarious, which would make people want to go see that movie. It also shows people who are dancing therefore it targets an audience that likes more of a comedy movie. While the remade version in 2007 is very bright and colorful and it gets its audience by showing the big actors that are playing in this movie. Those actors are all very famous during this time period and most are famous for acting in comedy movies. By showing the audience that these big stars are in this film it will target people who enjoy these actors and it will make the movie seem very famous because of the big time stars that are playing in it. It also is targeted at an audience that enjoys comedy.
